The best thing to do if you want to get this sort of dubstep sound during the drops is layer multiple synths over each other, and use large, open perfect intervals like fourths and fifths in the harmonies. I used multiple slightly modified Serum presets layered on top of each other for this, and added effects like pitch bends and similar stuff in certain places to make it pop more. The melodies were just something I came up with in my head one morning and had to write down, eventually leading to this.
A lot of music creation is simply from practice and experience. I consider myself a beginner musician (when it comes to writing), having been producing for about two and a half years now, so I'm sure that if you wanted to make music that sounded like this, you would get there in a reasonable amount of time, as long as you persisted and kept going, even when it seems hopeless.
